• Commends Sheriff Edmund M. "Ted" Sexton, Sr., of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for his distinguished law enforcement career spanning more than 30 years and his acceptance of a position with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as Head of the Homeland Security Division

• Recognizes Sheriff Sexton's five terms as Sheriff of Tuscaloosa County starting in 1990, including modernization of facilities and techniques, and implementation of Alabama's first county Amber Alert program

• Credits Sheriff Sexton with establishing mutual aid regional teams of First Responders that proved beneficial during the April 2011 tornado outbreak, and with developing community policing programs, school and business partnerships, and a new paramedic program

• Acknowledges his extensive law enforcement credentials including FBI National Academy, Homeland Security Executive Leadership training, and service as Assistant Secretary for State and Local Law Enforcement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from January 2008 to October 2009

• Recognizes Sheriff Sexton's selection as the Nation's Outstanding Sheriff of the Year for 2007 by the National Sheriff's Association
