Mr. James B. Johnson died on March 27, 2013, at age 86, a native of Mobile and longtime resident of Fairfield, Alabama.

He was the first African-American on the Jefferson County Personnel Board, served as its president for several years, and retired from Booker T. Washington Insurance Company in Birmingham.

He was selected Grand Marshal of the Mobile Mardi Gras and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver of the Roman Catholic Church who received a congratulatory letter from the Vatican signed by the Pope.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Virdell Johnson, daughters Patrice Anthony and Rita Hutchins, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The House of Representatives records his death with deep sadness and offers this resolution in tribute to his life and with sympathy to his family.
