Maria R. Andrews is commended on her appointment as Director of the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

She is the first female director of the Tuscaloosa VA and has spent 34 years working in the VA system, starting as a dietician intern in Illinois and advancing to administration.

She previously served as Associate Medical Center Director and Chief Operating Officer at the Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare System in Las Vegas.

In her new position, she will oversee healthcare delivery to approximately 20,000 veterans through a workforce of more than 1,000 employees and an operating budget exceeding $150 million.

Her leadership priorities include continuing focus on the Tuscaloosa VA's specialties in mental health and senior citizen services while ensuring veterans receive comprehensive care across all medical realms.
