Mourns the death of Mr. L. Scott Atkins of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who died on March 19, 2013, at age 78.

Mr. Atkins served in the United States Marine Corps, attended Auburn University on a football scholarship, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and law degree from the University of Alabama.

Held positions as Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Assistant Attorney General for Alabama, Executive Assistant to the Alabama Highway Director, Deputy Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Retardation, Municipal Judge in Centreville, and Bibb County Assistant Prosecutor.

Survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Bennett Atkins; two daughters; two sons; 12 grandchildren; and one brother.

The House of Representatives expresses condolences to his family and honors his memory as a valued community member.
