Commends Officer Christopher Martin of the Birmingham Police Department as a nominee for the 2013 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement award.

Officer Martin is a three-year veteran of the Birmingham Police Department who responded to an active shooter situation at St. Vincent's Hospital on December 15, 2012.

During the hospital incident, Officer Martin and four other officers from the South Precinct confronted an armed suspect on the 5th floor, engaged in gunfire that wounded two hospital employees and one officer, but stopped the suspect without additional casualties.

The officers' quick actions and disregard for personal safety averted potential tragedy and saved the lives of innocent hospital staff and patients.

House of Representatives recognizes and honors Officer Martin with this resolution and directs that he receive a copy as evidence of their admiration and esteem.
