Recognizes Deputy Gaylon Phillips of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department as a nominee for the 2013 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

On November 3, 2012, Deputy Phillips responded to a welfare check on a suicidal resident who was intoxicated, displaying bizarre behavior, and armed with a gun.

Deputy Phillips and a Reserve Deputy worked to de-escalate the situation, but the resident pointed the weapon at Deputy Phillips after refusing orders to put it down.

Both deputies fired their duty weapons at the resident; Deputy Phillips called 911, requested EMS, and cleared the remainder of the house while the other deputy stayed with the resident.

Directs that Deputy Phillips receive a copy of this resolution as evidence of the House's admiration and esteem.
