SB10 Summary

• Prohibits athlete agents and other persons from negotiating or advocating for student-athlete enrollment at educational institutions for compensation.

• Requires athlete agents to obtain certification from the applicable professional league players' association if one exists for their sport, or to post a $25,000 surety bond if no such association exists.

• Increases initial athlete agent registration fees from $200 to $500 and adds new application requirements including identification documentation and professional league certification proof.

• Authorizes the Alabama Athlete Agents Commission to issue letters of reprimand for first violations, suspend licenses for second violations, and permanently ban agents from practicing in Alabama after a third violation.

• Adds representatives from Birmingham-Southern College and Samford University to the Alabama Athlete Agents Commission and reduces total commission membership from 18 to 17 members.
