SB15 Summary

• Establishes the crime of trespass on a school bus in the first degree as a Class B misdemeanor in Alabama.

• Criminalizes willfully demolishing, destroying, defacing, injuring, burning, or damaging any public school bus.

• Criminalizes entering a public school bus while doors are open for loading/unloading students, at railroad grade crossings, or after being forbidden by authorized school bus drivers or school officials.

• Criminalizes refusing to leave a school bus when demanded by authorized school bus drivers or school officials, and willfully stopping, impeding, delaying, or detaining a school bus.

• Exempts children under 12 years of age and authorized school personnel boarding the bus as part of their job assignment from criminal liability under subdivisions (2), (3), and (4).

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
