SB153 Summary

• Amends Section 11-47-3 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to authorize municipalities to enter into agreements with companies registered as service contract providers under Chapter 32 of Title 8.

• Permits cities and towns to make ancillary service contracts available to residential utility customers (water, sewer, gas, and electric services) with optional municipal endorsement.

• Allows municipalities to apply any fees received from these agreements to their general revenue funds.

• Prohibits cities and towns from requiring utility customers to purchase ancillary service contracts as a condition of receiving utility services.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
