Licensing boards and examining bodies in Alabama shall accept military education, training, or service from applicants toward occupational licensure or certification requirements, with boards required to promulgate implementing rules.

State educational institutions, community colleges, and technical schools must adopt policies by December 31, 2013, awarding academic credit to veteran students for military training or service that meets American Council on Education standards or equivalent, effective starting in the 2014-2015 academic year.

Military members on active duty shall maintain good standing with their licensing or certifying body without paying renewal fees, obtaining continuing education credits (if military duty prevents it), or meeting other typical renewal requirements.

Professional licenses and certificates remain valid for the duration of active duty service and for at least six months after discharge from active duty.

The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
