SB207 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 11-67-80 to expand weed and overgrown grass abatement procedures from Class 7 municipalities to all municipalities statewide.

• Authorizes any municipality to adopt alternate procedures through ordinance to declare overgrown grass or weeds a public nuisance and abate them, instead of following standard procedures in Articles 2 or 4.

• Allows municipalities to assess and collect reasonable abatement costs as a weed lien under the same procedures as Section 11-67-66, for both initial and subsequent abatements on the same property.

• Permits municipalities to assess abatement costs against property purchased by the State of Alabama or tax sale purchasers, with liens surviving redemption or subsequent state sales.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
