SB222 Summary

• Transfers the Alabama Industrial Development and Training Institute (AIDT) from the Department of Postsecondary Education to the supervision and control of the Secretary of Commerce and Department of Commerce.

• All existing AIDT contracts, leases, grants, agreements, and property remain in effect and continue to be owned by AIDT without modification or interruption.

• AIDT continues to be funded from the Education Trust Fund and maintains separate accounts outside the State Treasury; all disbursements require director approval and Secretary of Commerce approval.

• All current AIDT employees remain employees outside the state Merit System with compensation determined by the director and approved by the Secretary of Commerce; existing employee policies and procedures continue unless modified in writing by the Secretary of Commerce.

• All information concerning proposed projects provided to AIDT becomes confidential, and AIDT may enter confidentiality agreements with prospective entities, though this does not limit disclosure of public documents describing AIDT's activities, services, costs, or nature of work.
