SB235 Summary

• Amends Section 9-2-14 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add two additional members to the Advisory Board of Conservation and Natural Resources who must be commercial fishermen.

• The Governor appoints the two commercial fishermen from a list of no more than two nominees per position submitted by associations representing commercial seafood fishermen and the seafood industry in Alabama.

• Nominating associations must substantially represent commercial seafood fishermen and the seafood industry, with membership fairly representing seafood interests economically, educationally, and socially.

• The Governor must verify that nominees meet standards and fairly represent seafood interests before appointing the best qualified candidates to fill the positions.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon becoming law otherwise.
