SB296 Summary

• Amends Section 16-40-8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand the organizations that can certify CPR instructors in schools.

• Allows CPR instructors to become certified by organizations similar to the American Heart Association and American Red Cross, in addition to those two primary organizations.

• Maintains the requirement that all tenth-grade students in Alabama public schools receive CPR instruction in health classes.

• Updates standards for CPR instruction to include those prescribed by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and similar approved certifying organizations.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
