SB425 Summary

• Authorizes the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption on Sundays between 1:00 P.M. and midnight in the City of Dothan (located in Dale, Henry, and Houston Counties) by licensed retail licensees of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

• Requires the city governing body to hold a referendum at the next general election to determine if Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption shall be permitted.

• Sunday sales become authorized only if a majority of voters voting in the referendum vote in favor of the question.

• If a referendum fails, subsequent referenda may be held, but no second or subsequent referendum shall be held within one year following a failed referendum.

• The city shall pay all costs of the referendum and the act becomes effective immediately upon passage and Governor approval.
