SB473 Summary

• Allows active duty, active reserve, or retired Armed Forces members and their dependents (age 21+) to possess a reasonable quantity of alcoholic beverages purchased from military or in-state liquor stores in any Alabama county for private use.

• Requires alcoholic beverages to be purchased from military liquor, package, Class 6, or similar stores that source inventory from licensed Alabama wholesalers or the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

• Requires persons to maintain sufficient identification, such as a sales receipt, proving the alcoholic beverage was purchased in Alabama from a military store or outlet.

• Establishes a civil penalty not to exceed $500 for first-time violations of the act.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
