SB95 Summary

• Adds Spring Hill College to the list of educational institutions whose president or chief executive officer may appoint and employ police officers under Alabama Code Section 16-22-1.

• Grants appointed police officers all the duties and powers of police officers to keep off intruders and prevent trespass upon and damage to the institution's property.

• Requires all police officers appointed under this authority to carry and be trained in the proper use of nonlethal weapons while on duty.

• Defines nonlethal weapons as those explicitly designed to immediately incapacitate a targeted person while minimizing fatalities and permanent injury, with reversible effects.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
