SJR 95 Summary

• Creates the Alabama DUI Prevention and Ignition Interlock Advisory Council to identify successful methods and strategies to reduce driving under the influence and alcohol-related fatalities in the state

• Council shall conduct in-depth analysis of state laws, rules, and regulations relating to DUI and ignition interlocks and provide suggested modifications to enhance these laws

• Membership includes appointed representatives from the House, Senate, Governor, judiciary, law enforcement agencies, prosecution services, courts, mental health, victim advocacy groups, defense lawyers, police chiefs, sheriffs, and approved ignition interlock providers

• First meeting must be held within 180 days of effective date, with minimum of one annual meeting thereafter; council shall elect a chair and may hold public meetings to receive public input on DUI and interlock law effectiveness

• All council meetings are open to the public and all findings, conclusions, and recommendations shall be reported to the Senate President Pro Tempore and House Speaker and made available to the public
