HB 116 Summary

• Increases district court civil jurisdiction from cases where the amount in controversy is $10,000 or less to $25,000 or less, exclusive of interest and costs.

• Increases circuit court exclusive original jurisdiction threshold from cases exceeding $10,000 to cases exceeding $25,000.

• Updates filing fees for district court cases with amounts exceeding $3,000 but not exceeding $25,000 (previously $10,000), changing the fee from $198 to apply to the higher threshold.

• Modifies filing fee distributions among the Fair Trial Tax Fund, State General Fund, Advanced Technology and Data Exchange Fund, and county general funds to reflect the increased jurisdictional amounts.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
