HB15 Summary

• Allows school districts to educate students about the history of traditional winter celebrations and permit students and staff to offer traditional greetings such as "Merry Christmas," "Happy Hanukkah," and "Happy holidays."

• Permits school districts to display scenes or symbols of traditional winter celebrations on school property, including menorahs, nativity scenes, and Christmas trees, if the display includes symbols from more than one religion or one religion combined with at least one secular symbol.

• Prohibits displays relating to traditional winter celebrations from including messages that encourage adherence to a particular religious belief.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
