HB16 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 6-5-332 (Good Samaritan Law) to add civil immunity protections for volunteers providing temporary care to persons with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

• Grants immunity to unpaid volunteers acting under the direction of a primary home caregiver when they perform care in good faith without charging for goods or services.

• Protects volunteers from civil liability for any acts or omissions in rendering care, or for acts or failures to provide or arrange care, provided they act as a reasonably prudent person would under the same circumstances.

• Effective date is the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval, or upon the bill otherwise becoming law.
