HB169 Summary

• Amends Section 11-52-3 of the Code of Alabama 1975 regarding municipal planning commissions and the appointment of supernumerary members.

• Expands authority for mayors in municipalities (except Class 1 municipalities) to appoint two supernumerary members to serve on municipal planning commissions.

• Supernumerary members serve only at the call of the commission chair in the absence of regular members and possess full powers and authority of regular members while serving.

• Changes existing requirement for cities with populations between 175,000 and 275,000 from mandatory appointment to permissive appointment ("shall" to "may") of supernumerary members.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
