HB221 Summary

• Extends disabled veteran distinctive license plate provisions to include motorcycles in addition to motor vehicles under Alabama Code Sections 32-6-130, 32-6-131, and 32-6-133.

• Disabled veterans with physical disabilities requiring special mechanical control devices or exceeding 50 percent disability rating may obtain distinctive motorcycle license plates bearing "Disabled Veteran" and service branch designation for a $5 fee.

• Motorcycle license plates for disabled veterans shall not be transferable and the $5 fee is in lieu of regular license fees.

• Adds one disabled veteran motorcycle license plate exemption for service-connected disabled veterans under Section 40-12-244 regarding privilege and license tax exemptions.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval; passed by House on March 5, 2014 with 94 yeas, 0 nays.
