HB332 Summary

• Department of Public Safety shall develop a program for approved training and testing to issue commercial driver's licenses to veterans, including National Guard and reserve members, with military commercial motor vehicle experience.

• Department shall allow skills testing for commercial driving licenses to be administered by U.S. Armed Forces personnel at military bases and permit knowledge portion testing on-site at military bases.

• Department shall waive the skills test for commercial driver's license applicants who meet the requirements of 49 C.F.R. part 383.77 (federal military CMV driver waiver standards).

• Amends Section 32-6-49.8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to change the waiver provision from discretionary ("may") to mandatory ("shall") for applicants meeting federal requirements.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
