HB372 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code sections 22-11A-60 through 22-11A-73 to add hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection to the definition of infections that health care workers must report to the State Health Officer.

• Defines HCV infection as the presence of antibodies to HCV or other means as determined by State Board of Health rules, and redefines "infected health care worker" to include those with HIV, HBV, HCV, or other diseases designated by the State Board of Health.

• Requires infected health care workers who perform invasive procedures to notify the State Health Officer and establishes an expert review panel process to determine necessary practice restrictions.

• Authorizes the State Board of Health to designate by rule additional diseases beyond HIV, HBV, and HCV that infected health care workers must report.

• Became effective the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor; passed House 98-0 on March 11, 2014.
