HB44 Summary

• Amends Section 40-12-248 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to delete the limitation restricting farmers to obtaining only one farm tag for truck tractors used to transport farm products.

• Allows farmers to obtain reduced annual license tax and registration fees for multiple truck tractors used for transporting farm products, rather than being limited to one vehicle.

• Maintains the reduced fee structure based on gross vehicle weight: maximum of $30 for vehicles under 30,000 pounds, $85 for vehicles 30,001-42,000 pounds, and $250 for heavier vehicles.

• Additional truck tractors beyond the first will be charged standard license tax and registration fees according to the applicable weight schedules.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
