Amends Section 13A-6-4 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to elevate criminally negligent homicide to a Class C felony when the victim is a child under six years of age.

Currently, criminally negligent homicide is a Class A misdemeanor, except it becomes a Class C felony only when caused by a motor vehicle driver violating Section 32-5A-191 (impaired driving laws).

The bill adds a second exception making the offense a Class C felony regardless of the manner of death if the victim is under six years old.

The bill is excluded from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements regarding local expenditures because it defines or amends the definition of an existing crime.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval, or upon becoming law through other means.
