HB560 Summary

• Amends Section 16-22-1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to require college and university police departments to immediately report crimes of violence, hate crimes, and sex offenses occurring on campus to students and employees within 48 hours.

• Reports must be made to students and employees unless disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing investigation, endanger individuals, cause a suspect to flee, or result in evidence destruction.

• Reports may not disclose the victim's identity, address, or specific facts that could identify the victim.

• Extends reporting requirements to colleges and technical schools under the control of the Alabama Board of Education.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
