HB598 Summary

• Grants district attorneys, assistant district attorneys, the Attorney General, and assistant and deputy attorneys general statewide access at all times to confidential juvenile court records, reports, and information concerning children that are normally restricted.

• Allows district attorneys, assistant district attorneys, the Attorney General, and assistant and deputy attorneys general statewide access at all times to fingerprints, photographs, and other records of persons adjudged youthful offenders, which are normally not open for public inspection.

• Requires district attorneys and their staff to be provided statewide access to all court records contained in court files, including electronic records accessible through alacourt.com, at no cost, fee, or charge without limitation at all times.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
