HB 6 Summary

• State licensure for physicians, chiropractors, optometrists, and dentists shall be based solely on demonstrated skill and academic competence.

• Licensure approval for physicians, chiropractors, and dentists may not be conditioned upon participation in public or private health insurance plans, public health care systems, public service initiatives, or emergency room coverage.

• Licensure of these health care providers shall be conducted exclusively pursuant to specified chapters and divisions of the Alabama Code of 1975.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.

• Passed by the House of Representatives on February 11, 2014 with a vote of 77 to 16.
