HB68 Summary

• Amends Section 6-5-335 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand civil liability protections for members of organized rescue squads and volunteer nonprofit fire departments responding to emergency calls.

• Extends liability protections to members responding to 911 or other emergency calls to render medical assistance or emergency medical services, in addition to existing protections for fire response.

• Members acting gratuitously, in good faith, and in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, standards, and statutes are protected from civil damages for their acts or omissions during emergency medical response or property preservation efforts.

• Maintains exemption from liability protection for civil damages resulting from wanton misconduct.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
