HB7 Summary

• Requires the Secretary of State, judges of probate, absentee election managers, municipal clerks, and registrars to omit the residential and mailing addresses of registered voters from generally available voter registration lists upon written signed affidavit from the voter.

• Allows address omission when the voter or a minor in their legal custody is or has been a victim of domestic violence as defined in Alabama Code Section 13A-6-130.

• Allows address omission when a domestic violence protection order has been issued by a judge or magistrate pursuant to the Domestic Violence Protection Order Enforcement Act to restrain access to the voter or a minor in their custody.

• Exempts lists provided to federal and state agencies from the address omission requirement, allowing those entities to retain full voter information.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
