HB71 Summary

• Eliminates the requirement to publish voter registration lists and election notices in newspapers; instead requires posting on county websites or the Association of County Commissions of Alabama website if no county website exists.

• Requires voter registration lists to be available upon request at a reasonable cost from the judge of probate's office and posted for review in public buildings.

• Mandates counties place display advertisements in newspapers (at least one-half page for primary elections, one-quarter page for voter file maintenance and general elections) directing the public to where lists and notices are available online.

• Maintains the requirement to publish lists of voters to be removed from the voter roll in newspapers during statewide voter file maintenance in November or December.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval, applying to any election cycle beginning after the effective date.
