HJR102 Summary

• Creates the Old Federal Road Task Force to identify and promote the historic Old Federal Road, which was constructed beginning in 1811 to connect Fort Stoddert in Mobile County, Alabama to Fort Wilkinson near Milledgeville, Georgia.

• Task force membership includes directors of the Alabama Historical Commission, Department of Archives and History, Alabama Tourism Department, and Department of Transportation; presidents of four-year public colleges/universities in the Old Federal Road area; three state senators and three state representatives; and one member from each congressional district where the road was located.

• First task force meeting must be called by the Speaker of the House no later than September 1, 2014; members elect a chair and vice chair at that meeting and thereafter meet at the chair's call or by majority motion.

• Task force shall present annual findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature and Governor on or before the tenth day of each regular legislative session regarding identification and promotion of the Old Federal Road.

• Members serve without compensation but may receive per diem reimbursement if funds are available; legislative members cannot receive per diem when the Legislature is in session or when receiving payment for other state business on the same dates.
