Commends Alabama Department of Public Safety Trooper Tony Brewer as the recipient of the 2014 Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

Trooper Brewer has served with the Department of Public Safety since February 9, 2003, and is assigned to Troop A, Marion County/Highway Patrol Division/Hamilton Post.

On July 29, 2013, Trooper Brewer responded to a call at the Hampton Inn in Winfield, Alabama, where an armed suspect had attempted to lure a female into a car, escaped custody, and fled into the woods with a firearm.

Trooper Brewer pursued the armed suspect into the woods without backup, engaged in an exchange of gunfire, and took cover fire position to protect approaching officers, resulting in the neutralization of the threat.

The suspect involved was a recently released prisoner who had stolen a vehicle and two handguns and was on a crime spree at the time of the incident.
