Recognizes Officer Byron Thompson of the Huntsville Police Department as a nominee for the 2014 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

Officer Thompson has served with the Huntsville Police Department for nine years as a Uniform Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and member of the Mobile Field Force and Honor Guard Unit.

On July 10, 2013, Officer Thompson rescued a driver trapped in a burning vehicle at an eight-vehicle traffic accident at Memorial Parkway and Airport Road, staying in the flames until the driver was freed despite other citizens abandoning the effort.

Officer Thompson was nominated for a Medal of Valor and issued a Lifesaving Medal on August 16, 2013; he also received the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution Heroism Medal.

The legislature directs that Officer Thompson receive a copy of the resolution as evidence of the state's admiration and esteem.
