Honors Leroy McAbee, Sr., of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as a 2014 inductee into the Alabama General Contracting Hall of Fame.

McAbee earned a mechanical engineering degree from The University of Alabama and founded McAbee Construction in 1962, which became one of the largest heavy industrial contractors in the southeast.

McAbee is certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, and served as president of the Tuscaloosa Joint Apprentice Committee of Plumbers and Steamfitters.

McAbee has contributed significantly to community service, including serving on the President's Cabinet at The University of Alabama and as National Council Representative for Black Warrior Council, Boy Scouts of America; received recognition as 1981 Volunteer of the Year, 1984 Patron of the Arts, and 1986 Citizen of the Year in Tuscaloosa.

Two facilities were named in his honor: the Leroy McAbee Scout Service Center (1992) and the Leroy McAbee, Sr., Activity Center at the Veteran's Hospital (1998).
