Commends Officer Zachary Blanton of the Decatur City Police Department as a nominee for the 2014 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement.

On June 28, 2013, Officer Blanton responded to a domestic violence call where an ex-boyfriend was attempting to force his way into Sandra Coleman's residence that was actively burning.

Officer Blanton prevented Mrs. Coleman from running into the smoke-filled residence, then entered himself to guide her eight-year-old son to safety and subsequently rescued the child's puppy.

Officer Blanton received the Medal of Merit, the Decatur City Police Department's second highest honor, for his actions that protected Mrs. Coleman, her children, and their pet without harm.

Directs that Officer Blanton receive a copy of this resolution as a token of admiration and esteem from the Alabama House of Representatives.
