Commends Officer Henry Higgins of the Birmingham Police Department as a nominee for the 2014 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement.

Officer Higgins responded on December 1, 2013, to a backup call on northbound I-59 at the I-65 interchange where a male was positioned to jump from a bridge into oncoming traffic.

Officer Higgins assisted Officer Demarcus Mitchell and two other officers in securing both the suicidal male and Officer Mitchell to prevent them from falling over the bridge railing onto the interstate.

Without Officer Higgins's actions, the citizen and Officer Mitchell would likely have died from the fall onto the interstate highway.

The House of Representatives recognizes Officer Higgins for his extreme bravery and selfless actions that saved a citizen's life and a fellow officer's life.
