AL SB152

Requires state and local government agencies to use green building standards that equally credit forest products certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, American Tree Farm System, or Forest Stewardship Council when using state funding for public building construction or major renovation.

Defines green building standard as any nationally recognized rating system including LEED, IGCC, or Green Globes that rates environmental efficiency of building design and operation.

Defines major renovation as any project with a construction budget equal to 50 percent or more of the current replacement costs of a building.

Applies to the State of Alabama, state-supported institutions of higher learning, and any county, municipal, or other political subdivision.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
