AL SB156

Increases the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy from five to six members by adding one additional member who must be a compounding pharmacist appointed by the Governor.

Defines a "compounding pharmacist" as a pharmacist engaged in compounding drugs for at least 80 percent of their professional practice.

First compounding pharmacist appointment must occur prior to December 31, 2014, with subsequent appointments every five years or when a vacancy occurs.

All board members must be licensed pharmacists with a minimum of five years in-state licensure and actively engaged in pharmacy practice or administration.

Bill becomes effective immediately upon passage and Governor approval.
