SB168 - Alabama Smoke-free Air Act of 2014

• Prohibits smoking in all enclosed areas of public places and places of employment, and within 15 feet of entrances, exits, operable windows, outdoor seating areas of restaurants and bars, playgrounds, and sports arenas.

• Exempts private residences (unless used as licensed child care, adult care, or health care facilities), outdoor employment areas, existing private clubs, tobacco manufacturer facilities, cigar bars, and retail tobacco shops.

• Requires owners and operators to post "No Smoking" signs, provide written notice to employees, remove ashtrays from prohibited areas, and direct violators to extinguish smoking materials or leave premises.

• Establishes penalties of up to $50 for individuals smoking in prohibited areas, $100 for first business violations, $200 for second violations within one year, and civil fines up to $1,000 for third and subsequent violations.

• Repeals the Alabama Clean Indoor Air Act (Chapter 15A, Sections 22-15A-1 to 22-15A-10) and becomes effective three months after passage.
