SB175 Summary

• Transfers all law enforcement functions of conservation officers from the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to a newly created Conservation Enforcement Division within the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency.

• Creates the Conservation Enforcement Division within the Department of Public Safety, with the director appointing a chief of the division (except for conservation officer appointments, which remain under Section 9-11-17).

• Requires agencies controlling restricted funds (due to state or federal requirements) to reimburse the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency for administration, manpower, benefits, equipment, and other expenses used to perform authorized tasks.

• Makes the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency a service provider for agencies with restricted funds, allowing use of their equipment within applicable funding restrictions and requiring proper accounting of purpose-restricted monies.

• Effective date: January 1, 2015.
