SB188 Summary

• County commissions, in consultation with the local judge of probate or county license plate issuing official, may authorize an optional two-year motor vehicle registration renewal for vehicles operated on Alabama public highways.

• Registrants electing two-year registration must pay the local issuance fee only once, with no additional issuance fee required for the second year.

• Registrants must pay license taxes, ad valorem taxes, and registration fees for each of the two years at the time of electing two-year registration.

• The act becomes effective January 1, 2015, following passage and approval by the Governor or otherwise becoming law.
