SB221 Summary

• Amends the criminally negligent homicide statute to classify the offense as a Class C felony when caused by any person operating any vehicle or vessel while unlawfully under the influence of alcohol or drugs in violation of Sections 32-5A-191 or 32-5A-191.3.

• Amends the assault in the first degree statute to include causing serious physical injury while driving or operating any vehicle or vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintaining the Class B felony classification.

• Repeals Section 32-5A-192 of the Code of Alabama 1975, consolidating DUI-related criminal provisions into the amended sections.

• Excludes the bill from Amendment 621 local funding requirements because it defines a new crime or amends the definition of an existing crime.
