SB226 Summary

• Eliminates the requirement for physicians to submit criminal background check results to the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners when registering under the Alabama Pain Management Act.

• Removes the fingerprint submission requirement and associated costs that were previously borne by applicants for state and federal criminal history record checks.

• Maintains all other registration requirements including proof of DEA registration, Alabama controlled substances certificate, and current Prescription Drug Monitoring Program registration.

• Renumbered remaining registration requirements to account for the removal of the criminal background check provision.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
