SB26 Summary

• Amends Section 40-12-248 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to delete the limitation restricting farmers to obtaining reduced-rate farm tags for only one truck tractor.

• Farmers may now obtain reduced annual license tax and registration fees for multiple truck tractors owned and used to transport farm products, with reduced rates of $30 (under 30,000 lbs), $85 (30,001-42,000 lbs), or $250 (over 80,001 lbs).

• Additional truck tractors beyond the first one will be charged standard license tax and registration fees based on gross vehicle weight schedules.

• Maintains reduced-rate provisions for trucks transporting forest products with maximum fees of $40 (under 30,000 lbs) or $65 (30,001-42,000 lbs).

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
