SB286 Summary

• Amends Section 32-6-231 of the Alabama Code to require submission of identification information before issuing disability access parking windshield placards.

• Requires applicants to submit a state-issued driver's license number, non-driver identification number, U.S. Uniformed Services identification card, or a unique identifying number prescribed by the Commissioner of Revenue along with physician certification of disability.

• Applies the same identification requirements to both long-term disability placard applications and temporary disability placard applications (valid up to six months).

• Maintains existing provisions for placard expiration (maximum five years for long-term disabilities), placard design requirements conforming to Public Law 100-641, and issuance of a second placard upon request.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2015; passed by the Senate on February 6, 2014 with a vote of 32-0.
