SB302 Summary

• Court clerks in circuit, district, and municipal courts shall charge and collect a $6 electronic citation fee as additional court costs in traffic, misdemeanor, municipal ordinance, and conservation cases.

• The $6 fee shall be retained 60% by the collecting court clerk and 40% distributed to the state, county, or municipal fund that supports the arresting law enforcement agency.

• All proceeds from the fee must be used solely to defray expenses related to establishing and maintaining electronic citation systems.

• County commissions or municipal governing bodies must adopt an ordinance to elect participation in the electronic citation fee collection.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
