Political subdivisions (counties, municipalities, and other local entities) in Alabama are prohibited from enacting ordinances, policies, rules, or mandates requiring employers to provide employees with vacation or other forms of leave that are not required by state or federal law.

Political subdivisions cannot require employers to compensate employees for vacation or other leave unless compensation is mandated by state or federal law.

The prohibition does not apply to mandates that political subdivisions establish for their own employees or classes of employees.

Any existing ordinance, policy, rule, or other mandate of a political subdivision inconsistent with this act is declared void.

The act takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
